Hey everyone:) I'm still alive and can say that I have successfully
lived 26 days at BYU-Idaho without one leg. Not an accomplishment many
people could reach haha. Well, this week has been really busy! Monday
was the closing social for social activities so we had dinner and
everyone had a balloon fight which I hung on the sidelines for. Overall
it was fun though! On Tuesday as most of you know, there was a gigantic
thunderstorm that literally just sat on rexburg and dumped an insane
amount of water in like 30 min. It was crazy!!! I was in the library
when this happened doing my homework. I don't think I have ever seen so
much rain in my life and violent rain with hail! Literally the whole
campus turned into a river of water!!! The MC was getting totally
flooded with rain, so they evacuated us from the library. I wasn't quite
sure what to do. I took my scooter outside and the rain had stopped for
just a moment. I went through some of the water as I was coming up
hill, then when I was coming downhill to the apartments, I saw the crazy
amount of water pouring from everywhere into a roundabout that cars
were trying to move in and the apartments across the street.
This stupid flood destroyed three different apartment complex bottom
floors. There was water up to peoples waists and it was nasty sewage
water :P My roommates were out there for hours helping people get their
stuff out through windows. I swear the entire campus was out there doing
service from the pictures I saw. There were houses in all the area of
campus that got destroyed as well, so I will tell you that this
situation was horrible. I thought they would cancel a lot more, but only
the Smith building was closed the next day (my first class= cancelled
cuz it was in that building). They had all those that helped get tetinus
shots.
It was hard for me to stay in my apartment and
be useless. I wanted to be out there serving and helping people late
into the night like a lot of people I know. Some were out there after
midnight helping people get their stuff out. Some kids lost
everything....on finals week. Talk about a trial. On Wednesday night was
the Orchestra concert. Marisa and I did our solo which went really
well. I was a little bummed I couldn't do it by myself- but it still
went well :). After that we went out to ice cream and this guy she has
been kinda sorta not-really dating was with us and bought ice cream and
Italian sodas for us three. I kept thanking him and he seemed really
happy to buy it for us. Kind of him. That whole day I was just working
and working and working on my stupid 15 pg. essay for English 201.
Absolutely nothing was going right!!! My friend edited my paper for an
hour and we lost all my editing marks, a lot of research I had done was
lost, and even my Mom edited it and I didn't get that in my paper. So,
my teacher was nice and extended the date which I was really grateful
for.
I watched "Pearl Harbor" for my American
Foundations class to get extra credit- fabulous movie that made me cry
my eyes out! Friday I was studying a ton, so I asked a friend of mine to
go with me to "Best of Show" which ended up being fantastic. It is a
make up of all of the best performances of the whole semester. We then
drove back to my apartment and had ice cream. It was so nice to take a
break and have some fun:) We also watched one of Wele's long Indian
movies. I'll tell you what- living with that girl is so fun! She is so
chill and I just have grown to love her fun and happy attitude.
I swear she only gets like 3 hours of sleep every night
because of her custodian job, but she's her happy and jolly self
always. Jackie is a girly person. She likes to have fun and is going
into Elementary education. Danae is pure sweetness. She is a pro-dancer
and is just a peacemaker in our apartment. Mary can be described in one
word- intense. She is extreme in everything she does whether it's
working out or doing something risky. She likes to live life on the
edge. Lindy was only with us for the first half- she is suuuuuper
talkative. She got sent home though cuz of moral stuff. On Thursday and
Friday I said goodbye to a lot of people and got some pics:)
On Saturday Marisa (my stand partner) took Wele and me to the temple. I
have been trying to have her go to the temple all semester and finally
she got to go for the first time. It was wonderful as usual. She came
out of the dressing room with her shoes on and when she finished getting
baptized she went in the wrong door- she is so great:) She just brushed
it off. But there was a special spirit in the temple this time. It was
just great. After that, Marisa and I practiced and had lunch at her
house. We got home and I managed to get like 30 min of studying before
my friend Brian from work invited me to go with some friends to Pizza
pie cafe for dinner and that he would pay. At this point I seriously
have NO food, so I was grateful. Remember, all of this I did with my
nifty scooter and crutches.
I only feel like half
of me with my cast on. It has humbled me beyond humbled me because
there are some things I just simply can't do alone and people have
stepped in and being so kind. Saturday night we watched 'Letters to
Juliet' and Sunday was a normal day but we did say goodbye to everyone.
Us Relief Society Presidency made some stuff for the girls like
scripture stickers and pictures of Jesus and a note from us. I have
loved being in the Presidency! It has helped me feel useful in the ward
and have a place. Well- this week is gonna be insane, but it will also
be great:) Wish me luck!- I gots a big American Foundation final
tomorrow and Natural disasters final on Tuesday. God is with us and I
love him.
