Well, I am still alive despite my leg being unable to move or allow me much activity. This week was hard, but I got through it one day at a time. On Monday my FHE group was really great by trying to do something that I could participate in. We had a "game night" at my apartment. We basically played a couple rounds of 'What if' and then everyone decided to leave. It was fun for a little bit- there were some really funny ones. One in particular made me a little uncomfortable was one that a person wrote that said "What if Pat and Lindsey Started dating?"- Pat is a really good looking guy who is the Bishop's Secretary who I think is an amazing guy, but am not interested in.- The answer found was "Then we would all move to Missouri..." I thought it was funny that someone thought we would be a cute couple.
Every day this week was pretty similar. It was fun for everyone to sign my cast, but I mostly received a ton of sympathy which I have learned to accept and see as a way that people show me they care. I feel like I don't seek for people's help very often. I find that almost to be a weakness- though this situation has taught me differently. I realized how much I need people to help me at different times and that it is near impossible to do certain things alone. My average day with a cast at BYUI:
Wakeup, get ready(using my crutches), go down the apartment stairs with my crutches, unlock my scooter, lock up my crutches, hike my scooter up the hill to my first class, ride my scooter to the 3rd floor of the MC where I do scripture study and study for other classes for an hour, go to the 1st floor of MC and change into work clothes, go to the main office for my work where I get my money for my register, take my crutches and go to my station on the 2nd floor (my coworker Brian gets a chair for my register and one of the other guys takes my backpack upstairs to my register), I work for a couple hours (I found that most people don't see my leg, they only see the chair, so I'm treated normal for the most part), I got back downstairs where they count the money, I take my scooter and change, then attend the rest of my classes, then take my scooter home where I lock up my scooter, then take my crutches up the stairs and do all my studying at my apartment. That is an average day right now...
I feel that this has happened for a reason. The Lord has provided me with many blessings that I must recognize and appreciate. I found that since I got my cast, I have never had better grades. I took a test this week in my Natural Disasters class where I got a 95% which is amazing for this difficult class. This scooter is such a blessing as well. I hurt my arm at one point and it hurt to do crutches, so this scooter is like a gift from heaven. I do get a lot of attention, though it isn't the kind I like. I am trying to be happy---I know that I have that choice----to be happy or sad. I choose to be happy. Once when I was in the Snow building riding down the hall to practice, there was a guy walking down the hall who turned around and I smiled at him. It was interesting when he said "Wow, you look so happy with your leg like that." I said "Yeah, I'd rather be happy."
On Friday my plan was to go to Boise to visit family up there, but circumstances changed my plans. I found out that Trina and Todd were in Idaho Falls with Todd's family who was there for his mother's wedding on that Saturday. I got to hang out with his family and talk to them. That night we had a barbeque and saw the fireworks which were great! I slept at Lynn's (Todd's mom) house that night. The next day I stuck around for the wedding and Lynn wanted me to play my violin at her wedding, so we went to BYUI and picked up my violin. I have found such great joy in my violin this semester because it is something that I can actually do. So I practiced for an hour and played during the ceremony and reception. Trina, Todd and Elise were great. I had to depend on them a lot for different things because I was unable. They so willingly did what they could to help me. They then brought me back to BYUI that night.
This experience is making me open my eyes and see everything in a different perspective. I am more humble and am less obsessed with my image like I have been in the past. The Lord is stretching me in a way I never thought I would have to be stretched. I am so grateful for him and for the Spirit in my life. He is so good to me. I am his daughter. I want to return to him and help others do so. This mission that I will go on will change my life and I have faith that my foot will heal because I have received a blessing that has assured me of it. I love my family- they mean the world to me and more than ever during this struggling period in my life. When I feel that no one understands, I can rely on the Lord and my family for support. This is the true church and I know that it changes lives as it has changed mine.
